dementia and Alzheimer’s

One of the saddest and most devastating diseases known today is Alzheimer’s disease. This debilitating disease affects approximately 4 million people in the United States alone, and the numbers are increasing all the time. Famous politicians, movie actors, your grandmother, your next-door neighbor, your best friend’s father .... Alzheimer’s is no respector of persons. It afflicts the rich and poor alike.

Alzheimer’s disease robs a person of his or her memory. It changes their personality; it removes their ability to function normally. It starts out slowly, but progresses relentlessly until the end of a sufferer’s life. It has great impact on the lives of those close to the patient, putting emotional and physical stress on those who become the caregivers, to say nothing of the financial pressure.

While there is no cure yet for Alzheimer’s, which destroys a person’s brain function, an early diagnosis can definitely help slow down the progressive nature of the disease. Much research has been done in the past, and new studies are being conducted all the time. New drugs are being tested, and new treatments have shown promising results in slowing Alzheimer’s down and helping those afflicted with it to function independently for a longer period of time.

On this site, you will find a wealth of information about the many different aspects of Alzheimer’s disease. Whether you want to learn more about the causes of Alzheimer’s, or are exploring treatment options and the range of Alzheimer’s care available, we hope you will find helpful information that you can use.
